The tradition of a full-time Chaplain at the Christian Fellowship Center began in the early 1900s with Rev. May. Prior to his service,
no written records are available, and the earliest history of the ministry has been preserved primarily through oral tradition.
Since that time, the ministry of the Christian Fellowship Center has been faithfully carried forward by the following full-time Chaplains:
- Rev. Richard Huffines (1982–1987), United Church of Christ minister
- Rev. Dr. Douglas Williamson, Ph.D.(1987–1989), United Methodist minister
- Rev. Dr. Chang-Hee Son, Th.D. (1989–2025), United Methodist minister
- Rev. Dr. Esther Jung, Ph. D, the current Chaplain, Presbyterian Church U.S.A. minister, continuing this legacy as a Korean-American
What is the most important thing in your life?
What are you looking for?
What do you want to make?
The Rev. Dr. Esther Jung has served as Chaplain of the Christian Fellowship Center at Bridgewater State University (BSU)
since July 2025.
Under Rev. Dr. Jung’s leadership, the Christian Fellowship Center is cultivating a vibrant community of love
on campus, where students learn God’s Word, encounter the love of Jesus Christ,
and live out their faith in daily life —integrating faith and life together.
After majoring in Electronic Engineering, she taught as a full-time university professor in South Korea for 14 years.
Before joining the Christian Fellowship Center, she served for eight years as a campus minister at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, caring for students spiritually, mentally, and physically
She is deeply committed to campus ministry and shares the following reflection:
For 37 years, I lived without believing in God or knowing Jesus Christ.
Then I encountered the love of Jesus Christ on the cross, and that encounter transformed my entire way of thinking and my view of the world.
I came to realize that the true value of life does not lie in striving for high positions,
accumulating wealth, or proving that I am better than others.
Rather, it is found in the love that continually works within me, calling me to live in harmony with others.
It is about living as one who is deeply loved and continually receiving God’s love.
"My faith journey has begun—a journey of putting into practice in my life the image of God present in all people and the love of Jesus Christ revealed on the cross.
I have come to understand that we are all loved by God, and that what remains for us is to walk with the Lord as those who are loved and to live as those who are loved. I have also realized that the most valuable thing in our lives is not what we achieve or fail to achieve, but growing together in deep love and connecting with one another heart to heart.
Jesus Christ came into this world and showed us how to live out love—taken, blessed, broken, and given.
I pray that the Christian Fellowship Center will be held in God’s love and richly blessed by Him; that our own egos will be broken down; and that the Center will be built into a beautiful and warm community of love, overflowing with the love of Jesus Christ.
My hope is that all students who come to the Christian Fellowship Center will live out the good conscience God has given us and practice the selfless love that enables us to give ourselves to others —becoming a positive and life-giving influence in the world.
Jesus said, “Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who mistreat you.” (Gospel of Luke 6)
Transformation, it is said, begins when we awaken to the truth that we are loved.—when we recognize the gifts God has placed within us and understand that we are capable of doing beautiful things. In other words, true change happens when we discover that we are loved.
Through all the activities of the Christian Fellowship Center, my hope is that students will grow as disciples by being the beloved, becoming the beloved, and living as the beloved..
